About the medal

The Winsome Constance Kindness Medal and Prize is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional compassion, altruism, and service to others, often characterised by courage, quiet generosity, empathy, and a commitment to alleviating suffering.

It recognises and celebrates consistent acts of moral courage, selflessness and achievement that have had a significant and lasting impact on individuals, communities, animals, or the environment.

History

The medal was established in the late 1990s by Australian philanthropist and activist Philip Wollen, in honour of his mother and grandmother. The international award honours individuals whose actions embody moral courage and selflessness, carried out without expectation of recognition.
